Summary: Northwood School offers a challenging core curriculum that emphasizes preparation for college coursework in a supportive and structured setting. Additionally, we offer several Signature Academic Programs that provide students with first-hand experiences to help develop and deepen their interests in specific subject areas. The academic program at our boarding school is designed to strengthen our students' intellectual abilities and promote character development. Faculty members use a variety of techniques to ensure that courses are student-centered. An average class size often allows for the success of students of all learning styles. Summary: "College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won." The college planning and application process requires a unique combination of self-reflection, organization, and risk-taking. Northwood School's college counseling office works closely with students to guide, support, and encourage them along the way. This begins during the junior year with a series of seminars covering topics designed to help build an initial college list, understand and prepare for standardized testing, plan college visits, and begin work on applications. Northwood students take SAT and ACT preparation courses in math and English at no additional cost and work one-on-one with their college counselor to ensure the readiness of all admission materials. Parents also play an important role in the college search process, discussing options and strategies with college counselors throughout the application process and aiding in finding the most appropriate match for each student.
