The Academic Office supports students throughout all stages of high school and post-secondary planning, and places a high value on students developing self-advocacy skills. Planning for the future starts right away in the freshman year through exploring potential interests, attending college fairs and making college visits. Preparation continues through the years with guidance in course selection and preparation for entrance requirements, and culminates in the senior year with hands-on workshops in completing applications and applying for financial aid, and extensive one-on-one counseling and support.

Student Life

With a campus community that is a combination of local day students and boarding students from around the world, residential life at Maine Central Institute is an experience that has much more to offer than a typical boarding school. In addition to students from over fifteen countries, Maine Central Institute is the home of nationally, and world, renowned programs such as Bossov Ballet. Students in those programs call our dorms home for over nine months of the year. Activities are planned for all days off from school so that boarding students can experience a wide variety of what central Maine and New England offers. The library, student center, and gyms are available for use outside of school hours for both boarding and day students to use. Day and boarding students are involved in classes and co-curricular activities every day, but it is the opportunities outside of those organized times that provide boarding students some of the most genuine, and valuable, opportunities to interact with local students and families in a natural setting. There are countless stories and examples of boarding students that have developed lasting friendships with those they live with in the dorm with, classmates, teammates, local families, and adults on campus that have had an effect on them, which is a priceless reality that being a boarding student at MCI offers.

Summary: Playing music or acting in plays isn't just about faring well in competitions with other schools, although MCI certainly stands out. It's about getting involved; over 150 students play in one or more musical groups, take piano, music theory or song writing classes, and many students participate in drama or art competitions each year. It's about discipline, working together towards a common goal, taking pride in doing something well, and having fun while making art. At MCI, we believe that athletics is an important part of the educational process, a dynamic lesson in teamwork and personal dedication. We offer a comprehensive athletic program for student-athletes of varying levels of ability. Maine Central Institute is a member of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) and the Little Ten Conference (LTC).

Summary: The Academic and Career Counseling Office is the mainframe of the student's guide to planning his or her four years of high school. Our office includes the Dean of Academics, Director of Studies, an International Academic Counselor, two Academic Counselors, the Registrar / Student Data Coordinator and the Office Manager. Each counselor assists students with the exploration of their college search and application process, explores career goals, and works with students to develop life-long plans. Classroom presentations, college representative visits, college fairs, military information and meetings with individual students are a few examples of how the academic counselors serve each student's needs.
