Bement is a co-ed, non-profit school, grades K-9, of 225 students with a carefully selected boarding population of 45 (grades 3-9) nestled in the heart of one of New England’s most renowned historic villages. Bement seeks to attract a diverse student body, paying close attention to the intellectual, artistic, athletic, and personal strengths of candidates. We seek students who will contribute to our learning community not only through academic curiosity and work ethic, but also through generosity of spirit, kindness, and compassion. In keeping with the mission of the School, the Admission Office at Bement is committed to working closely with each individual applicant and family to determine whether or not the student will be well-served by our program.
Founded in 1925 by Mrs. Grace Bement, our approach to teaching and learning is designed to meet and challenge the students we serve. Bement's warm and caring community places equal emphasis on each student's academic, artistic, and athletic development. The academic curriculum is rigorous and designed to support students. Small classes and individual attention are hallmarks of a Bement education. Our celebrated fine arts department encourages creative expression through the study of music, art, and drama, while the school's varied athletic program reflects our dedication to the health and well-being of every child. A three-week mini-term gives the entire school community an opportunity to study in-depth a common theme. Topics have included health and wellness, Dominican Republic, food, diversity, the environment, medieval times, space, and the ocean. All students engage in a varied community service program. Our outdoor education center, Pine Hill, provides opportunity to develope a sense of place to foster appreciation for the natural world and build self-identity through intentional social emotional learning. We are known as a school with a strong sense of family and community where who you are as a person matters greatly. Bement is a community dedicated to the culture of kindness. Each day, in everything we do, we are committed to the school’s four core values: Compassion, Integrity, Resilience, and Respect.
Recent graduates of Bement have matriculated at top secondary schools such as Deerfield, NMH, Williston, Andover, Exeter, Milton, Suffield, Choate, Hotchkiss, Taft, Berkshire, Loomis Chaffee, Emma Willard, Lawrenceville, Peddie, Westminster, Mercersburg, Miss Porter's, and Blair and any more.
